How to beat the midterm blues
Ahh it’s that time of the year again. The time where you have to learn all the things you were meant to learn during the school year but didn’t (of course I’m just kidding, we are all perfect students here).
Here are some top tips to beat those midterm blues
Give yourself breaks
It is so easy to feel the pressure and convince yourself you HAVE to study nonstop. In reality you need to be giving yourself some regular breaks to rest your brain, have a minute to drink water and eat, and not overwhelm yourself with too much information at once.
Change your scenery
Studying can become monotonous very quickly. To help battle this change up your study locations. Coffee shop one day, library the next. And if you aren’t feeling as bold find a new area to sit in at your regular study spot.
Go to the gym, eat 3 meals a day, get sleep, and drink water. These are things you must make a priority during times of high stress at school. Just because you want to ace that exam or assignment doesn’t mean you need to fall ill in the process.
Make a schedule
If you have multiple subjects to tackle at once make yourself a study schedule. This way you can stay on top of your tasks and make sure each course is getting the attention it deserves.
Give yourself little rewards once you’ve accomplished one of your tasks. Take a 15 minute walk outside, take a hot shower, call a friend or family member. Do something for yourself to feel good.
Surround yourself with positivity and hard workers
If you are going to engage in a study group make sure you actually study. These can be a great resource for accountability and help but distractions can quickly turn this into a social event. Make sure there is a balance. Also surround yourself with people who are going to encourage and motivate in a positive way. Only positive vibes allowed!
Plan something exciting as a reward when you finish exams
Exam periods and halfway through the school year can become a very challenging time. Plan something after you finish the stressful time to look forward to and reward yourself such as a spa day or holiday abroad.
Think ahead to how great you will feel after you finish the assignment/exam
When you sense your motivation slipping away remind yourself of how great you will feel once you’ve accomplished your goals. Remember your ultimate goal and purpose for studying.
